History Made Again: Romania Secures Spot at EuroVolley 2026!
Romania’s women’s volleyball team has officially qualified for the final tournament of the European Championship for the 28th time in history!
In the last match of the qualification round, Romania defeated Croatia 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-18) in Blaj, after a 113 minute battle. With this result, the team finished with 9 points and three wins, securing a spot at next year’s European Championship.
Given the standings, there’s no scenario in which Romania would miss the final tournament. The group winners (Croatia will likely take the top spot with 9 points after their match against Kosovo this weekend) and the five best second-place teams from the seven qualification groups will all earn a ticket to the final phase.

Against Croatia, Adelina Ungureanu led the scoring with 21 points. She was followed by Ștefania Cheluță with 13 points and Rodica Buterez with 11.

113 Minutes of Battle: Romania Tops Croatia 3-1 to Secure Spot
The 2026 European Championship Final Tournament will take place from August 21 to September 6, hosted by Turkey, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, and Sweden. As previously mentioned, this will be Romania’s 28th appearance in the competition’s history.
The match against Croatia marked the end of an incredibly successful international season for the Romanian team. Earlier this summer, the squad coached by Guillermo Naranjo Hernandez also won the bronze medal in the Golden League — and now, they’ve capped it off by qualifying for the European Championship Finals.
What’s next for our players? Likely a few well-deserved days off, before returning to their club teams — whether continuing with familiar squads or starting new adventures, depending on how they’ve negotiated their contracts.
