Looking at the team now, they seem just as strong (if not stronger) than last year. That shows the club and scouting team did a great job. The coaching staff stays the same too, led by Ciprian Dărnescu, who started working with the team in 2023 and has helped them improve every season.

There have been changes in every position. At setter, Mirela Shahpazova from Bulgaria (28) is staying for her third year. She’s been playing in Romania since 2020 and has played for teams like Belor Galați, CSM Târgoviște, and Dinamo. Joining her is the experienced Marina Anghelache (33), who used to play for CSM Târgoviște and has won the Romanian Cup twice. She’s replacing Serbian player Draskovic.

For the opposite hitter spot, Corona made a big signing by bringing back Ioana Baciu (35), a former international player and last season’s champion in Egypt with Al-Ahly. She replaces Ștefania Cheluță, who had an amazing year and even played for the national team but decided to move to Dinamo. Simina Străchinescu (26) is also staying — she’s a fan favorite for her positive attitude and the way she always gives 110%, often changing the game’s outcome.

In the middle blocker positions, along with Diana Ariton (27), who’s in her third year, the team kept Daria Cocan (18), a young player with lots of potential. They also added Daiana Roman from Volei Alba Blaj, an experienced and valuable player, plus Skyy Howard (24) from the USA, who was a champion with CSO Voluntari two years ago and played in Italy last season.

At outside hitter, they handled the departure of Adriana Matei, who’s off to play in Greece for AEK Athens, by signing Gabriela Bălae (30), a Romanian player currently training with the national team. She played last season for CSM Constanța and was one of their key players. They also signed Joyce Agbolossou (23), a German player from Poland who has experience playing in France, the Czech Republic, and Vietnam — where she even won a championship.

At libero, Bulgarian Galina Karabasheva (23) stays as the starter, and Alexandra Ciucu (30) joins from Volei Alba Blaj, replacing Adriana Popa after two great years in Brașov.

Corona Brașov Says Goodbye to Eight Players

During the break, Corona Brașov parted ways with eight players. Three are Romanian: Ștefania Cheluță signed with Dinamo, Adriana Matei with AEK Athens, and Adriana Popa is now a free agent. Of the five foreign players who left, only Shayla Hoeft’s next team is known — she moved to FC Porto. The futures of Draskovic, Milanova, Lasic, and Aguero are still unknown.

How Corona Brașov Will Meet the Rule About Two Romanian Players

The team’s management solved this rule by carefully composing the squad. In fact, they can easily field 5 or 6 Romanian players on the court at all times without losing quality. Even if they want to mix Romanian and foreign players, two positions are always covered by Romanians. On the opposite hitter spot, there are two Romanians, so one place on the court is guaranteed. Also, with three out of four middle blockers from Romania, the second position is well covered too. Gabriela Bălae will definitely be a starter, so there will be at least three Romanian players on court right from the start. This means the team’s quality stays high. With Marina Anghelache coaching and Alexandra Ciucu as libero, Corona has a strong Romanian core ready to compete with anyone in the league. That’s a big plus for next season: quality Romanian players in key spots.
